Spring Storytime

Spring has sprung at the library!

The Gardener Plants the Seeds
The gardener plants the seeds,
The gardener plants the seeds,
Hi ho the derry oh
The gardener plants the seeds.
The rain begins to fall...
The sun comes out to shine...
The seeds begin to grow...
The flowers open wide...

Three green and speckled frogs
Three green and speckled frogs
Sat on a speckled log
Eating the most delicious bugs
YUM!! YUM!!
One jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool,
Now there are 2 green, speckled frogs
2,1.

Shake my sillies out
Gonna shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
Shake, shake, shake my sillies out,
And wiggle my waggles away.
Clap my crazies out
Jump my jiggles out
Yawn my sleepies out

The Ants Go Marching
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah
The ants go marching one by one,
The little one stops to suck his thumb
And they all go marching down to the ground
To get out of the rain, BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Two Little Blackbirds
Two little blackbirds sitting on the hill
One named Jack and one named Jill
Fly away, Jack! Fly away, Jill
Come back, Jack! Come back, Jill
Two little blackbirds sitting on the hill
One named Jack and one named Jill

Creatures in the Garden
Slowly, slowly, very slowly,
Goes the garden snail.
Slowly, slowly, very slowly,
Up the garden rail.
Quickly, quickly, very quickly
Quickly runs the little mouse
Quickly, quickly, very quickly
All around the house.
Slowly, slowly, very slowly
Creeps the garden turtle
Slowly, slowly, very slowly
Through the garden myrtle.
Quickly, quickly, very quickly
Quickly runs the little rabbit
Quickly, quickly, very quickly
That's his everyday habit.

The UmbrellaThe first umbrella is red, it keeps rain off my head
The second umbrella is yellow for a very lucky fellow
The third umbrella is blue, it is the one I drew
The fourth umbrella is brown, I will carry it to town
The fifth umbrella is green, fit for a king or a queen.

River Storytime

Our beautiful St. John's River was the theme of our storytime today. We had lots of fun books and songs. We even looked at pictures of all SEVEN of Jacksonville's bridges.

If you missed it, don't worry- we've listed the songs and books we used and you can sing them/ read them at home!

Open Shut Them
Open shut them, Open shut them,
Give a little clap clap clap!
Open shut them, Open shut them,
Put them in your lap, lap, lap!
Creep them, crawl them,
Creep them, crawl them,
Right up to your chin, chin, chin!
Open wide your little mouth,
But do not let them in!

Jacksonville Bridges
(tune: The Wheels on the Bus)
The Main Street Bridge goes up and down,
Up and down, up and down.
The Main Street Bridge goes up and down,
All day long.
... railroad bridge goes open and shut
… Acosta Bridge is really tall
… Dames Point Bridge is EXTRA tall

Over the Bridge
(tune: The Bear Went Over the Mountain)
The bridge goes over the water,
The bridge goes over the water,
The bridge goes over the water,
And I go over the bridge! And I go over the bridge, and I go over the bridge.
The bridge goes over the water, and I go over the bridge.

Alligator, Alligator
Alligator, alligator sitting on a log.
Down in the river, he spied a frog.
SPLASH!
Goes the water, away swims the frog.

Teasing Mr. Osprey
Five little fish in the river blue
Teasing Mr Osprey
“How slow are you?!?”
Down swoops Mr. Osprey
Quiet as can be and…SNAP!
…4,3,2,1

Here Is the River
(suit actions to words)
Here is the river, the rolling river
Here is my boat,
And here is me
All of the fishes
Down below
Wiggle their tails
And way they go.

Little Duck
I saw a little duck go hop, hop, hop
I told the little duck to stop, stop, stop
I went to the riverbank to say, ‘How do you do?’
He wagged his little tail and away he flew!

Little Turtle
There was a little turtle,
He lived in a box,
He swam in the river
And climbed on the rocks.
He snapped at a mosquito.
He snapped at a flea.
He snapped at a minnow.
He snapped at me.
He caught the mosquito.
He caught the flea.
He caught the minnow.
But he didn't catch me.

Six Little Ducks
Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with a feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack, Quack, quack, quack, Quack, quack quack,
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Down to the river they would go
Wibble-wobble, wibble-wobble to and fro…

Music Club- Tropic of Cancer

On March 20th, come meet and hear the six musicians that are Tropic of Cancer. They have a sound and style derived from a variety of musical influences, combining odd time signature, angular rhythms with Jazz, Reggae, Samba and African rhythms. They are called Tropic of Cancer since much of their inspiration came from the warm latitudes of Jamaica, West Africa, India, the Middle East and Latin America. Come learn about the band’s "New World Lounge” sound of drums, percussion, vibraphone, saxophone, guitar, and fretless bass. They’ll also be bringing instruments for the kids to use to play along!

Music Club is a program series geared towards ages 8-12, although ages 6-14 are more than welcome to come. Call 630-2417 for more information.

Check out a video from when their last Music Club appearance.
